Go Thunderbirds & BYU

We have an employee named Robert. He is the pitching coach up at Southern Utah University. So as a family we have enjoyed going to some baseball games this year. So far it has been fun and interesting. Well a couple of weeks ago SUU was playing BYU at BYU. We thought it would be fun to take the boys up to it since they love BYU so much. We told them since we were there with Robert we needed to cheer for SUU. Drew found this way too hard. He was almost in tears till I told him it was alright to cheer for BYU. They boys had a ball.

We drove up the night before. We knew that it might snow a little maybe towards the end of our trip, but nothing major. Boy were we wrong. When we got to Beaver he saw the blackest cloud. It started an ice storm. It was the worst weather I have been in while driving. Thankfully Darrin was the driver. The roads weren't plowed and at times we were going 35 mph on the freeway. Thankfully we were behind semi trucks and they forged the way. We had to pull the snow off the windshield before it turned to ice every ten minutes. By the time we hit Nephi it was getting dark and our headlights weren't working. We pulled into Nephi and our car wouldn't go into park so we put on the emergency break so we could stop and chip the one inch of ice that was on our headlights. We had so much ice everywhere. When we pulled into Provo we had to go to a car wash to get some ice off so we could put the car in park. A trip that should have taken us 3 hours and 15 minutes took us 5 1/2 hours. The next morning we couldn't get our emergency brake all the way off until we drove around and warmed up the car. It took 2 days for the ice to melt all the way off the car.

When we got to Grandma Buttle's house the boys got to sleep on the pull out sofa bed. They loved it. We had fun spending time with Grandma Buttle and we even got to have lunch with Darrin's uncle, aunt and cousin. It was good times.

The good thing that came out of this was that we had snow to play in the next day. They boys were so excited to have snow to play in. Caleb loved it but would keep on his gloves, so his time outside was short.

Jared and Drew had tons of fun in the snow. This is Jared helping Drew get his hat back on.

The boys playing Ninja. They would have stayed outside all day.

Their favorite thing was climbing the tree and jumping out of it.

Jared at the game. After the night before, we thought that I would be a cold, yucky game. They took the snow off the field and the sun came up and it was such a nice day.

Drew at the game. We were happy that Grandma Buttle came with us to the game and was able to stay most of the time. The boys loved that everything said BYU on them.

This is what Caleb did most of the game. Climb over all the chairs. Lucky for us there was way more chairs then fans.

The boys had so much fun. Leaving the game we were walking with two older guys. Talking with them we were telling them we came up to see SUU but they boys really wanted BYU to win. Those guys were so nice and gave the boys a ball from the game to share. They were so excited to get a BYU ball.

There was one little story I wanted to share with you all. Last week the boys had off school. SUU was playing U of U in baseball so Darrin took the two older boys up to the game at SUU. There is a patch of grass that you can set up lawn chairs and watch the game. This spot is next to the U of U dugout. The ump made a call that the U of U coach didn't like and he came out Swearing VERY badly. Darrin was ticked that he was saying that in front of his kids. When the coach came back Darrin yelled "Hey coach thanks for swearing in front of my kids. Way to go." After the game the coach came to Darrin and said sorry. I learned a lesson here. ALWAYS stand up for what you think is right to matter what. I am very proud of Darrin.

Basketball Fun

Jared played his first season of basketball. Here they can start in 3rd grade. I think it is a perfect time. They are old enough to understand some of the rules .

Jared was so excited and wanted to play. I was a little worried. Jared loves to play sports. But I think he plays more for the social part. He is not the biggest fan of running. I explained to him that he needed to run the whole time.

Jared did awesome. He was always running and going after the ball. I was so proud of him. He LOVED it.

He had an awesome coach. He played for BYU way back when. He was very patient with the boys and really taught them what they needed to become better.

Jared had a ball and can't wait to play next season. We are so proud of him for trying his best.
